An Introduction to SPH

by Dr. Chong Peng

Finite Element Method suffers from mesh deformation for problems with large deformation. Poor accuracy and loss of convergencc are the consequences. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics is a meshless method and has gained popularity in the simulation of problems with large deformation. Dr. Peng offers an online introduction to SPH in three parts, from the fundamentals to advanced topics around this fascinating numerical tool.

During his research stay at IGT, Mr. Abbasi Maedeh completed his PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. Ali Ghanbari from University of Kharazmi, Iran, and Prof. Wu. His worked is related to soil structure interaction, fluid structure interaction and dynamic behavior of vessels.

EGU "Outstanding Student Poster and PICO" award 2016

Dr. Miguel Angel Cabrera has been awarded with one of the EGU "Outstanding Student Poster and PICO"-awards 2016 for his poster "Monodisperse granular flows in viscous dispersions in a centrifugal acceleration field". After his promotion at the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering this year, Dr. Cabrera was offered a tenure track position as assistant professor at the Universidad de los Andes, Bogota, Columbia.

Am 28. März 2014 hält Prof. Ronaldo I. Borja, Professor an der Stanford University und langjähriger Projektpartner des Instituts für Geotechnik, einen Vortrag zum Thema "Persistent Shear Band in Unsaturated Porous Materials". Der Vortrag wird auf Englisch abgehalten.
